2010/2010

As the sequel of the well-known masterpiece "2001: A Space Odyssey", this movie partly answers some puzzles in the last episode, such as "where is David", "what happened to HAL later", etc., but there still were so many questions for the audience, like "what the something wonderful is?"

Being different from the exploration adventure to the unknown world in the first "2001: A Space Odyssey", this movie is more realistic, especially when it was based on the conflicts between the America and the Soviet Union, which makes it a commercial movie rather than a science fiction movie.

HAL-9000 is one of the softest part in the movie. It is just like a baby, being always full of curiosity to explore the world outside. It is curious about dreaming and it is a little afraid of the unknown world. Although it looks like a iron box, it is almost the softest character in sci-fi movies.

Quotes:
HAL-9000: [message relayed from monolith] All these worlds are yours, except Europa. Attempt no landing there. Use them together. Use them in peace.

Dave Bowman: You see, something's going to happen. You must leave.
Heywood Floyd: What? What's going to happen?
Dave Bowman: Something wonderful.
Heywood Floyd: What?
Dave Bowman: I understand how you feel. You see, it's all very clear to me now. The whole thing. It's wonderful.

HAL-9000: Will I dream?
Dr. Chandra: Of course you will. All intelligent beings dream. Nobody knows why.

HAL-9000: What is going to happen?
Dave: Something wonderful.
HAL-9000: I'm afraid.
Dave: Don't be. We'll be together.
HAL-9000: Where will we be?
Dave: Where I am now.
